Cake
Cake is usually affiliated with celebration. My mom loved cake. On August 20th, 2013 my mom would have turned the big 53. So in honor of the day that welcomed my mom into this world, one of my mom's dearest friends invited me over to feast upon cake. There is nothing that can stop all who loved her, from embracing her memory on her special day. There are two types of people in this world: the people who eat cake and the people that don't. Life is like a big fat cake. You can either sit back and stare at it , or you can stick your fork in and take a big bite. My mom taught me to never be afraid to try new things. She showed me how to be someone who dives right into every day life has to offer. When in doubt, EAT CAKE! Celebrate and cherish every single day you are blessed with. I'll bet heaven has a ton of cake. Happy Birthday mom!

Somewhere Over the Rainbow
My name is Kristen and I am a senior at CSUF creating a blog for my opinion and editorial writing class. The song above reminds me there is more to life than work. There is more to life than the struggle. There is far more to life than worrying about the things you just can't change. My mother passed away when I was in the seventh grade, and this song was at her memorial because she loved it and always believed there was so much more to life. I wish I could describe to you just how amazing she was, but there truly are no amount of words in the English language that could define how much of an impact she had upon my life. When I heard this song in the car the other day, I thought of her. I thought of all the memories she gave us, all the wise words she uttered, and all of the things she taught us that have actually stuck. Most importantly, I thought of how many people are somewhere out there shaking their heads at a funny joke she once told them, doing things the certain way she taught them, or singing aloud to a song she once loved. This courageous woman left such an impact upon my life and not a day goes by where I don't notice an imprint she has left upon me. This blog was created to lift up the beautiful woman that raised me. To the angel that continues to watch over her many many loved ones, this one is for you!
